Backroad Books is a free book giveaway program that aims to help build the home libraries of kids all across Franklin County- specifically those in the far reaches of the county who have limited access to bookstores and libraries. The Boler-camper-turned-bookmobile is loaded up each month with brand new (and some gently used) books before striking out on the crumbling backroads of Western Maine.

We park at grocery stores and gas stations, laundry mats and playgrounds, hoping to connect with local families to hand out fresh reads.

With the help of countless community members, we’ve distributed hundreds of books to children- traveling from Farmington to Weld, Weld to Rangeley, Rangeley to Eustis, Eustis to Kingfield and back down to Farmington.
